The Hoffman family has been involved as entrepreneurs for generations. Peter first got involved with the family business as a child working with his father. They owned Hoffman’s Playland, and in 1966 started a rental business when the family bought some apartment houses.

Peter owned a few businesses in the Capital District; some car washes and a restaurant in Clifton Park prior to making the decision, with wife Suzanne, to get into a business that would allow them more time with their four children. They had always enjoyed property on Lake George, so when they looked at Glens Falls and its potential, the Hoffmans decided to start buying properties for commercial and residential development. They were taken with the city’s charm, character and architecture. They feel that it is very important to preserve the character of the buildings they refurbish.

Peter and Suzanne bought Water Tower Village apartments in South Glens Falls in 2001. They then purchased 100-110 and 86 Glen Street in 2004. The Hoffmans recently expanded Water Tower Village, bought two properties on the circle in Hudson Falls, and Civic Center Plaza on Warren Street in Glens Falls. Additional property on Warren Street will be converted into 27 apartments with retail space within the next year. All of their holdings are within seven miles of the Glen Street Associates office in downtown Glens Falls which allows the Hoffmans to be very hands-on every day.

The outlook is bright. Peter and Suzanne currently employ three people as well as their son, Peter Jr., an investment banker who chose to follow in his father’s footsteps. Peter Jr. left Dallas for his new career in the family business.

Glen Street Associates is about rehabbing properties to the best condition possible, and they have been instrumental in revitalizing downtown Glens Falls. According to Peter Sr., every project is planned with the future in mind. “If you try to build for today, you are building for yesterday.”

Peter and Suzanne’s other contributions to the community include serving on the Chapman Historical Museum Board; Glens Falls Business Improvement District (BID) Board; and the Board of the World Awareness Children’s Museum. Peter Jr. is a lacrosse coach for Glens Falls City Schools.
